“Congratulations to BRAC Business School for organizing Bangladesh’s first international case conference on Business and Management with the theme “ENTERPRISE, PRACTICE, AND LEADERSHIP IN EMERGING ECONOMIES.” I express my gratitude to BRAC Business School for giving us the opportunity to take part as the title sponsor for such an esteemed program.

There couldn’t be a better time to hold this type of conference, especially when the entire economy is going through a challenging time due to the repeated waves of Covid-19 and external events like the Russia and Ukraine war. These unforeseen events call for the importance of experiential learning.

Bangladesh is one of the most resilient economies in the world. Apart from the phenomenal track record of economic growth in the pre covid era, we have seen how strongly Bangladesh's economy is emerging from the recent challenges. Despite the external challenges, we have seen that renowned DFIs like WB, and ADB have forecasted the GDP growth rate to revert to above the 6% range in 2024. However, Bangladesh’s economic growth is yet to be reflected in the capital market.

As we know, a strong capital market is one of the most critical catalysts for sustainable economic growth as it channels the long-term fund to the Entrepreneurs from the investors. Understanding this, the regulators, and the industry practitioners, have been extensively working on bringing reformations like introducing products like ETFs, REITs, Commodity trading, etc., making the bond market vibrant and, most importantly, improving the corporate governance of the listed companies.

Innovation and technological progress are rapidly changing the world, and the capital market is no exception. We are bracing ourselves for technologies like Order management systems, AI-based trading, technical chart trading, etc., which will revolutionize the industry.
